Dr. Dave Hein was born and raised in Kansas. He attended Kansas State University, where he received a B.S. degree in physics, M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering. Dr. Hein's doctoral dissertation was published in 1981 and involved development of video compression techniques that are used today in digital video storage and transmission. Much of Dave Hein’s doctoral research was performed under a contract between Kansas State University and the NASA/Ames Research Center. He worked in the remote sensing group where LANDSAT images were studied. At NASA, Dr. Hein worked on a team that developed a 1.5 Mbps video compressor. He also helped to develop a real-time video compression simulator that could simulate much lower bit rates. Later on, Dr. Hein worked at Compression Labs in San Jose, CA from 1983 to 1988, VTEL Corporation in Austin, TX from 1988 to 1996, and Polycom(1996 to 2008). Each of these three companies has been prominent in the video conferencing industry. Dr. Hein currently holds one patent involving video conferencing, and he has applied for four more patents. Dave Hein is currently pursuing his various interests, including rocketry, photography, genealogy and software development. He has combined some of his interests to develop rockets that carry cameras, which take aerial photos. He has also developed the Quad Pod II, which is a rocket that uses a gyro chip and servos to provide active stabilization. Dr. Hein has been involved in the past with the PropelX group that was pursuing the Google Lunar X-Prize. He has most recently been a member of Team Prometheus, which is developing a balloon-assisted rocket for the N-Prize. |

I traded my toy dinosaurs for toy rockets when Alan Shepard became our first astronaut in the Mercury program. Built my first rockets out of match heads and CO2 cartridges and then gun powder from a friend's father's ammunition that he hid in his garage. Tried my first liquid rocket at age thirteen using black lacquer for fuel and my older brother's soldering iron to "weld the steel fuel tank/combustion chamber". A tank failure in my mother's kitchen ended rockets until high school chemistry when I discovered zinc/sulfur and home made black powder. The X-15 program inspired me to join the Air Force where I learned electronics. Rocketry competed with geology in college with geology winning out as the Apollo program ended. During this time I still remained interested in rockets and upon becoming a science teacher, incorporated Estes and then scratch built rocketry in my lesson plans and for after school science/rocket club. During this time I launched hundreds of low-mid power rockets and over saw literally thousands of student launches. I also became interested in low cost EX propellants using all sorts of fuels and oxidizer combinations...anyone for ground up dried tree leaves or nitrate soaked pencil sharpener shavings? Three years ago I got involved with Jeff Jakobs "R" powered hybrid and two years ago with Richard Nakka's Sugar Shot 2 Space project. I had retired from teaching chemistry but have returned to chemistry teaching. When I have spare time I volunteer for the Riverside Mountain Rescue Unit having had experience in climbing over the last fourty years. |
From an early age I was always interested in how things worked. I remember getting yelled at for disassembling my parents VCR and radio. I never liked to read much, but learning hands-on gave me excitement. So in High School I began attending a Vocational training program in Electronics outside Philadelphia, Pa. Naturally this led me to pursue a career in Engineering. Still interested in hands-on learning, Penn State University offered an Electrical Engineering Technology degree in which I received a Bachelor's of Science in 1993. High tech jobs were scarce in Pennsylvania so, with two boxes of clothes, I drove to Texas since I heard the people there were friendly. Nine months later I found myself in Austin, Tx; the second silicon valley, working for Applied Materials. Working in the semiconductor industry for eight years allowed me to continue to apply my hands-on approach to engineering. I had several different positions at Applied Materials, including being a Technical Trainer to customers all over the world. I was able to befriend a variety of people, a few of which owned investment properties. So like my friends, I began to dabble in the Real Estate field while still working full-time at Applied Materials. I had never thought about using my hands-on learning to fields outside of the engineering realm. I was pleasantly surprised at how much I liked the maintenance and remodeling of properties. I began to learn all kinds of exciting trades like carpentry, concrete, drywall, tile, landscaping, cabinetry, and plumbing. I owned and operated my own property management and remodeling company, Gor-Kho Enterprises, for 10 years. Recently I have begun studying other disciplines on my own such as auto mechanics, welding, and religious studies. |

Paul William Ramsey was born March 8th, 1958 in College Station, Texas to Jones & Mary Anne Ramsey. Paul's dad Jones was working as the sports information director for Texas A&M University, and was the liaison to the press for the legendary Paul William "Bear" Bryant, whom Paul was named for. His mother, Mary Anne, was a veteran social worker for the State of Texas Welfare Department. Paul's Dad was hired by the legendary "Darrell Royal" at THE University of Texas for the same position he held at A&M in 1961. (It also needs to be noted that Bear Bryant got his "Image" with the hounds-tooth fedora and the London fog coat he always wore from Paul's dad when Coach Bryant asked Jones one day what he could do to "improve" his image and put himself "on the map" like the famous and successful coaches.) The family moved to University Hills in 1966. During this time, UT won three national championships in football, and Paul's dad became a busy man. Paul had always drove his teachers, family, and friends nuts with all the banging on tables, desks, and other objects with his hands. This was probably due to nervous energy, but at some point in 1974, his mother noticed that he had perfect rhthym when playing the "hand" drums, and she noticed that anytime somebody sang a song on the radio, if they were out of key, or out of time, Paul would immediately correct them. She declared to the people in her world shortly after that: "Paul has perfect pitch"! (which is how Paul's company got its name). She then decided, with reservations, to buy Paul his first set of drums. That was the match that started a fire that is still burning super hot to this day. Paul graduated with the 1977 class at Reagan High, and immediately went to Houston, Texas to stay with his sister Mary, whom at the time lived on the University of Houston Campus. Paul was going there to check out the college life. A solid year in Houston proved to make him a better drummer. Paul moved back to Austin and very quickly formed a band. Paul went through a plethora of bands and live performing both amateur and professional alike. Paul still performs regularly and owns/operates Perfect Pitch Productions in Austin, Texas |

John Richard ( Dick) Wood Born 1953 Chatham Ontario, Residing in LaSalle Ontario. 30 years experience as an industrial millwright mechanic + 3 years tool and die experience. Canadian commercial ultralight pilot and flight instructor, private pilot, test pilot, have built 5 airplanes for myself and helped on a few more, formerly worlds leading expert on the Kline Fogelman airfoil, scuba diver since 1974, Kung fu, Chi gong instructor, Wood carver, champion underwater pumpkin carver, owner operator and chief driver of "Spirit of Excellence" chauffeur service. |
Stewart Lilley was born July 17, 1971. At an early age, I was fascinated by airplanes and rockets. That, and also anything remotelyhigh-tech or geeky. I took apart everything I possibly could, including some things I probably shouldn't have, but I learned a great deal. I devoured science books and science fiction from every library within range and showed a strong aptitude in school for math and science. My junior and senior years in high school I was the Texas state champion in UIL science competition, placing first in all 3 categories; biology, chemistry, and physics, but my highest scores were always in physics. I have always wanted to go into space ever since I knew there was such a thing. I grew up a bit too late for the heyday of the space race, but I have lived through the ups and downs of the entire shuttle era. I realized early on that I was never going to be an astronaut with my height and eyesight, so I determined that I would just put myself into space instead, and I embarked on a path that would hopefully take me there eventually. I attended college at the University of Texas at Austin and received my Bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering. I worked for two years at Bell Helicopter in Fort Worth and then for a year at a company called Simula in Arizona. After that I parted ways with the world of government contracting and became a programmer instead. I was a programmer, then a programming manager, then a consultant, then a consulting manager, and then finally a freelance consultant over the next several years. The dot-com bust ended my ambitions as a freelance consultant, and at that time I moved back home to Lampasas, Texas to be close to family. I now work for myself and own a computer repair business. I am also developing a new line of business as a renewable energy engineer and consultant and I am in the long and arduous process of converting my house to energy efficient and sustainable technologies. I have many hobbies that I started in my youth, such as flying model rockets, amateur radio, astronomy, chess, and playing guitar. I am grateful that Team Prometheus has given me a chance to re-awaken my long slumbering dream and participate in one of mankind's greatest pursuits, the promise and hope for a new future and a new frontier beyond the bounds of this earth. |

I was born in Lima, Peru on November 29, 1965. I was born with cerebral palsy. It is a spastic diplegia to be exact. I have lived in Austin, TX since 1968. My Mother moved back to Austin because she went to school there, but also because of the Cerebral Palsy Center in Austin. I went to two years of kindergarten like classes at the Cerebral Palsy Center instead of one year like most kids in an elementary school. That helped me with my manual dexterity, and to speak without a lisp. It also helped me to walk with a full leg brace on my right leg, and a half leg brace on my left. As a young man my inspiration to study science was triggered first by the original Star Trek TV series and later the movie Star Wars. The fact that Mom would let me stay up late and laugh with her watching Saturday Night Live when it was 'live', in 1975, taught me to be free to dream and to be silly and maybe be wrong, but never fearful of failure. I went to Austin Community College earning a degree in computer science. My tools are C++, Java, HTML, XHTML, and CSS...and I'm not mentioning several and I'm on to learn more. This is my passion. My inspiration to seek a position in a programming career was reinforced by two memorable teachers at ACC. I took astronomy from Neil deGrasse Tyson and he got me excited about learning something that was of no known immediate or future use in my life but to just go for it and you can do it because of the passion for it alone. Then I dabbled in programming with a BASIC class. I was hooked. I'm a code monkey. Then I learned to use C++ from Paul Russell. He gave me the confidence to go out and actually use my love for programming. I worked as a general manager of a mini-storage in Pflugerville, TX for 4 years. |

I'm a BAR or born again rocketeer. I was born in Fort Worth Texas in 1951 and I've been flying model rockets off and on since I was 10 years old. I served 20 years in the U.S. Air Force (mostly overseas) and retired in 1991. I spent another 10 years with the Air Force in various capacities before setting down in my home state of Texas in 2001. I started designing and manufacturing innovative model rocket kits in February of 2002. Email me if you have any questions at rocket877@aol.com |
My name is Tony Huynh. I was born in Fountain Valley, California on August 19th, 1986. I am currently a musician and marketing consultant for songsalive.org and I also manage an artist in the local Austin area where I currently reside. I was asked to help Team Prometheus by Monroe L. King in an effort to construct a business model for them. I was unsure as to whether or not I would be able to fulfill such a position so I have been doing any thing they ask of me; I wear several hats. My strongest influences are my spiritual advisors, the people whom I follow in the music industry, and of course Monroe himself. Without him, there would never have been an opportunity like this for me. Thank you! |

Work: Science Interests: Science, Nature Hobbies: Rocketry, Kayaking, Scuba, Hiking, Computers, Optics (astronomy and microscopy), and others. I am particularly interested in high performance rocketry including space exploration. I have been unable, as a single hobby enthusiast to engage in this type of amateur rocketry. I have used my resources to extensively research the beginnings of space exploration to determine how early techniques can be applied to amateur space and orbit attempts. My entry into hobby rocketry was precipitated by the first successful flight of an R motor rocket, to near space. This planted the seeds of amateur flight in the back of my mind, however they have remained dormant for nearly a decade. But the dream remains. It is simply a matter of time and money, resources that will come some day I expect, in some form. My dream would be, like so many others in rocketry, to start an "aerospace company" and conduct and sponsor research flights. |
